CC is The Man
Remember the other day when I said that Twitter was a rich source of news? Well arguably the biggest Yankee news this offseason has just broken on the site. CC Sabathia announced he is staying with the team via a video he posted from his account:
CC Sabathia to Remain a Yankee
CC Sabathia took to Twitter this evening to let Yankees fans know that he will be back next season and will not be opting out of his contract. The link included in the tweet directs you to a video of CC making his announcement. In short, he says he’s looking forward to remaining in NY, he wants to finish his career as a Yankee, and he mentions that he and the team were able to work out an extension. According to Buster Olney (also via Twitter) Sabathia will make $92M over the course of the next 4 seasons, as stated [...]
Blueprints for the Yankees To Follow
With the World Series ending over the weekend, now is the time to talk offseason. As General Manager Brian Cashman, the Steinbrenners, and manager Joe Girardi are discussing what to do in the offseason to improve the team, they are formulating a plan on how to make this team be in the best position to win a 28th World Championship. When you look at the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals, the one thing they both had a lot of were contributing role players. These are guys that you have never heard of before during the regular season, but [...]
Arizona Fall League Week 4 Rundown
On Thursday the Desert Dogs took on the Peoria Javelinas. Second baseman Corban Joseph‘s struggles continued as he went 0-5 with 2 strikeouts, bringing his average down to an even .200. Ronnier Mustelier, on the other hand, appears to be unstoppable at the plate – he was was 3-5 on the day with a run scored and his average now stands at an incredible .424. Rob Segedin also had a productive day at the plate, going 1-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Dan Burawa was the only Yankees pitching prospect to take the mound on Thursday, and he [...]
Swisher, Cano Extended as Option Deadline Arrives
Well it’s October 31, and that means that in addition to being Halloween tonight at midnight marks the deadline for players and clubs to exercise option decisions. The Yankees were busy over the weekend, extending both Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano through the 2012 season. At the risk of sounding obvious and cliche, I’ll note that both of these extensions were no-brainers. Cano is one of the best players in all of MLB, so his $14 million option for next season is a steal. The Yankees also have the option to extend Cano through 2013 for $15 million, which, barring [...]
Cashman Deal Done
In news that should surprise nobody, Brian Cashman, who was involved in a car accident yesterday, has a new deal with the Yanks. Presumably it’s another three-year pact, but the team is waiting for the World Series to end to make an announcement…unlike some people. We’ll have details as soon as they’re released.
Billy Martin: Kinda Racist
In an upcoming interview with Bob Costas, Reggie Jackson comes forward with allegations that his former manager, Billy Martin, was a bit of a racist. The interview will air on MLB Network on Monday. Here are a few excerpts:
You Just Can’t Predict Radio Agreements, Suzyn
The Yanks announced today that they have extended their current radio agreement with WCBS 880 AM through the 2012 season. The team also said that it retains the option to extend the agreement for another year, although both sides intend to continue discussions about a long-term partnership. Also, it is believed that John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman will both return to the booth.
Cashman in Car Accident
Brian Cashman was apparently in a car accident last night in Norwalk, Connecticut. The good news is that it was a very minor accident and nobody was hurt. Yes, it’s that time of year when stories like this are news. Cashman was driving east on Connecticut Avenue and rear-ended some lady in front of a Home Depot. According to the police report, he was following the broad too closely when traffic stopped. The collision caused “very minor damage” to her 2008 Honda and his 2010 Jeep. The Yankees GM (for at least another three days, hopefully much longer) was issued [...]
Arizona Fall League Check-In: Oct 25 & 26
On Tuesday, the Desert Dogs took on the Salt River Rafters. Second baseman Corban Joseph was 0-4 on the day lowering his AFL average to .218. Left fielder Rob Segedin was 1-3 with a home run, a walk, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI. The home run was Segedin’s second of the AFL season, and the 2 RBI in this game marked his 5th and 6th for the season. The Yankees prospect pitching trio of David Phelps, Dan Burawa, and Preston Claiborne pitched the first six innings for the Desert Dogs. Phelps threw 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 ER, and a [...]
