New York Yankees Rumors: Yankees Interested In Yovani Gallardo

The rumors are swirling and with the New York Yankees questions in their starting rotation, another name has emerged as a possible target. The pitcher who they faced tonight, Texas Rangers right Yovani Gallardo. Here’s the latest from CBS Sports Jon Heyman:

"Yovani Gallardo, who started Thursday night against the Yankees, is being pursued by at least five teams, with the Cubs, Blue Jays and Dodgers seen as the most aggressive parties to this point. The Yankees, who have sudden pitching issues, and Giants are two more teams in the mix"

Gallardo is a free agent after this season, something Brian Cashman likes to acquire is guys with expiring contracts.

Coming into tonight, Gallardo was 7-9 with a 3.19 ERA and 3.70 FIP. He’s struck out 83 in 121.1 innings while walking 46 and giving up 114 hits.

I talked about Gallardo as an earlier target about a week ago and after his performance tonight, I still don’t like the idea of acquiring his services for the stretch run. At this point though, the pickings on the trade market may be slim unless other names we don’t know about come to fruition.

The Yankees will continue to do their due diligence in the market and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they add another arm or two. And not just Craig Kimbrel.
