Yankees fan running his mouth gets sucker punched in Rangers fan brawl

Not everybody won last night.

This may not be statistically calculable, but it certainly seems like New York Yankees fans are more likely to get punched in a road ballpark than any other fan base. Huh. It's almost like ... people hate us, and drunk people hate us even more when they're losing to us.

That's not to say there isn't some Yankee fan instigation involved, though. Oh, no. The worst part about being a Yankee fan is, when you try to be humble and on the right side of history, there are always 1,000 people who have the same rooting interest you do who are actively working to erase your karmic goodwill and balance things out to net zero (and plummet your ranking below the status quo).

Unfortunately, win or lose, there's always going to be a hothead. The temperature is never just normal when the Yankees are involved.

Just under two weeks ago, a massive brawl broke out during a Yankees-Angels matinee (while New York's bullpen was imploding). It got so vicious it even captured Cody Bellinger's attention on the field. Now, with the Yankees in the midst of a successful road show, it's the road fans who haven't taken kindly to the New York aggression they've been presented with.

Take this video, captured midway through the Yankees' tight win over the Rangers on Monday night. We don't know who started it. We don't know what preceded this. All we have is a Yankees fan who's very much in the faces of two Texas Ranger fans chanting, "Brush your teeth!" followed by the Rangers fan in blue rising up and taking advantage of the higher ground by absolutely socking him in the face. Things progress from there in the way you'd probably expect them to.

Tensions running high as Yankees push to complete successful road trip vs. Red Sox, Astros, Rangers

This road trip through Boston, Houston, and Texas could've been an absolute killer, but so far, the Yankees on the field have handled three hostile fanbases much better than their traveling fans have. It's also no surprise that Yankee fans have been empowered to talk some mess, given that nobody wants them there, and they're 6-1 on the trip to date, sweeping the Sox and the Sox coaching staff out of Fenway.

While nothing got as violent in Boston as Cam Schlittler thought it might, Houston and Dallas are significantly rowdier these days, and it's no surprise that a Yankee fan got what he was basically begging for on Monday night.
