It took just 24 hours for the momentum the New York Yankees gained during their convincing sweep of the Blue Jays to be zapped away, as the Bombers dropped the opening contest of their three-game set against the Oakland A’s on Friday night.

Luckily for New York, however, they didn’t lose any ground in the division, as the Rays dropped their fourth (!) straight game, Baltimore bested the Blue Jays and the Red Sox dropped their opening game vs Kansas City.

Still, the Yankees shouldn’t count on that happening again. After all, wins are they only thing capable of getting them back in contention for the AL East crown, so let’s hope Aaron Boone has the squad ready to avenge this loss on Saturday afternoon.

Yankees vs A’s Odds Today

For the first time in four (!) games, betting odds favor the Yankees as they’re -125 on the money line (Athletics +104) with your typical MLB line of -1.5 runs.

Yankees vs A’s Pitching Matchup

The Yankees will send Domingo German to the mound on Saturday, and fans will be hoping he rebounds from his previous turn in the rotation. After logging nine straight starts going at least five innings and allowing no more than three runs, German lasted just 4.1 innings and surrendered seven runs on 10 hits in a loss vs the Phillies.

The Yankees’ streaking lineup will be put to the test in this one against Chris Bassit, who continues to be one of the most underrated hurlers in the AL. For the season (14 starts and 86.2 innings), Bassit is 7-2 with a 3.43 ERA, 91 strikeouts and a 1.038 WHIP.

Yankees Starting Lineup

Gary Sanchez is back, and that’s really all that matters as the slugging catcher is hitting .333/.368/.722 with four home runs, nine RBI and a 1.091 OPS over his last 10 games.

Yankees vs A’s prediction

The Bombers’ bats have been heating up lately, but we’re expecting Saturday to be a pitcher’s duel in the Bronx. We’ll predict a stressful, but satisfying 4-3 Yankees win to get back in fans’ good graces following Friday night’s defeat.
