Yankees: Watch CC Sabathia crush Astros with NSFW rant after final game
Yankees ace CC Sabathia’s behind-the-scenes documentary featured him destroying the Astros after his final game.
The “missing ring” the Yankees lost for CC Sabathia in 2019 remains among the most depressing in franchise history, and reliving the experience in Sabathia’s illuminating documentary “Under the Grapefruit Tree,” which premiered on Tuesday night, only furthered that notion.
The film told Sabathia’s tale all the way from his youngest days in Vallejo, CA through his struggles in the majors with alcoholism, heart issues, and the loss of his father — but there was some triumph, too.
Sabathia’s Yankees career began with a bang. He agreed to a record contract shortly after being offered one on the very first day of free agency (yes, Brian Cashman admitted Sabathia could smell the desperation), and went on to post three of the most dominant seasons in Yankees history from 2009-2011.
Unfortunately, the team only took home a single ring during that streak, a period of time in which the offense was also stacked (how the 2010 Yankees squandered their midsummer momentum, I’ll never know). And that brings us to 2019, Sabathia’s final season, which ended with a disappointing whimper — the Yanks fell to the Astros in six, and the lefty’s final outing came in Game 4, in which his shoulder finally gave out before the home crowd saluted him one last time.
As the documentary reveals, Sabathia was as angry as the rest of us in the aftermath, and was far more annoyed about losing to the Astros than the injury itself.

And that’s why King Sabathia is going to be a Yankee for life. Absolute king.
We’re sure the rest of the team felt these raw emotions in a similar fashion, too, but it’s just so reassuring when players on the team you root for hate your rival as much as you do.
Add in the cheating factor, and it really does feel like at least two opportunities for rings were stolen out of Sabathia’s hands in 2017 and 2019.
His contract was still an unequivocal success, and he’ll be an asset to the Yankees’ recruiting efforts for years to come, an eternal member of the family. But if you’d somehow gotten over the way his final season ended, this clip will reignite that fight within you.
