Check out Yankees third-round draft pick Trevor Hauver’s highlights.
The decision from MLB to shorten the 2020 Draft left the New York Yankees in quite the predicament, as they previously relinquished their second- and fifth-rounders in order to sign Gerrit Cole in free agency.
As a result, New York had just three picks to work with, and it’s fair to say that the club felt the urgency to select players that possess tremendous upside. On Tuesday, the Yankees announced that they signed their final two picks, Trevor Hauver and Beck Way, meaning that they completed the business end of their draft. For those wondering, No. 28 overall pick Austin Wells signed in June for a reported $2.5 million, and is already out here boldly declaring he’d like to catch Cole himself. We like this kid.
Since we already shared a highlight montage of the latter, it’s only fitting that we do the same for the former. Spoiler alert: we already can’t get enough of his swing.
We’ll go out on the most delicate of limbs and say that Yankees fans are going to love Hauver, who flaunts a gorgeous left-handed swing that, you would assume, is going to make a seamless transition to the professional level.
As you can see in the video, the No. 99 overall selection, whose contract is reportedly worth $587,400, played mostly outfield for Arizona State, but rumor has it that New York is keen on converting him to an infielder.
3rd-rd pick Trevor Hauver signs with @Yankees for $587,400 (full pick value for pick No. 99). @ASU_Baseball standout can really hit, and with power. Played OF for Sun Devils, but drafted as a 2B, could stick on dirt. @MLBDraft

No matter where Hauver plays, mark our words, the kid is going to mash. Since the coronavirus forced the minor league season to be cancelled, the former Sun Devil’s pro career won’t start on time, but we can confidently say that fans will be just fine watching more of his highlights as they start the countdown to his debut with the organization.
light. More. Yankees Sign First-Rounder Austin Wells
