The Yankees thrashed the Twins to take the ALDS using elite pitching and superb hitting. Luis Severino came up huge working out of two early jams and was supported by the bats of Gleyber Torres and Didi Gregorius.
The Yankees made a night of it in Minneapolis, Minnesota dealing their domination upon a Twins team and a sad crowd that saw over 100 wins themselves this season. In interviews prior to the game, each Yankees player dealt the same set of cards on the table.
They weren’t considering a game 4 in the ALDS, and would only accept a sweep into the American League Championship, and a chance to maintain their pitching lineup against the Astros or Rays.
Luis Severino stepped on the mound with a full look of determination to make that happen, and at first, it didn’t look like the Twins were even carrying the muster pre-game to manage a win against the only team that had won 12 straight against them postseason. You could see the fright in their eyes.
Severino finished four innings with a line that looked the ace he’s been for the past two seasons, but the work he put in along the way was nothing but nail-biting. He escaped the first with a Torres initiated double-play, and pitched around two hits in the third, but it was the second inning that had us all on the edge of our couches and bar stools, wondering if Sevy had finally reached his limit.
Working himself into a no-out, bases-loaded situation, every pitch that followed would take on its own life, and one was left to wonder how quickly Tommy Kahnle could get warm and save the Yankees from letting an early 2-0 lead slip out of their hands.

Somehow…maybe, because he didn’t pitch a whole season and had the strength of an Ox, Severino reached into his bag of tricks and suddenly began painting his pitches with strokes of genius causing a pop-up, and bagging two strikeouts in a row to put a stop to the only real threat the Twins put up all night against Yankees pitching.
This moment felt like the true turning point of the game, as half the crowd was roaring for the Yanks, and the players reacted as if the game was over already, and they had won the ALDS crown. But, star of the game Gleyber Torres had something to say about that.
Didi Gregorius had another great postseason outing with two hits and two RBI’s, but it was Torres who shined with his first playoff home run, and two more hits, going 3 for 4 on the night, with an RBI and three runs scored, backed by two of several stellar defensive plays on the night.
It was really a total team win in the end, as these young and old Yanks alike, have come together like brothers all season, in order to reach their championship goal. Team wins bring team World Series titles, and 28 is the only number on their minds as they enjoy their ALDS Championship.
