This team is something special. The 2019 Yankees have faced a plethora of injuries so far, most notably Aaron Judge. But the team has stepped up immensely.

The Yankees have such a deep farm system and have easily implemented the next man up philosophy. Who would have ever thought that the Yankees, after having 13 players on the injured list at one point, would be leading the American League East?

This team has no quit in them. During Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, they came back from losing 6-1 to win 10-7. Look at the squad that was out there to get it done:

1. D. LeMahieu, 2B

2. L. Voit, 1B

3. A. Hicks, CF

4. G. Sanchez, C

5. G. Torres, SS

6. C. Frazier, RF

7. G. Urshela, 3B

8. B. Gardner, DH

9. C. Maybin, LF

Nobody would have thought with this lineup, the Yankees would be where they’re at today now 2 games ahead of the second place Rays and 5.5 ahead of the rival Red Sox. This team is on a special run right now and they’re only going to get better.

Giancarlo Stanton has started playing in rehab games for the A-Advanced Tampa Tarpons and could be back next sometime week. Didi Gregorius is making great progress as well playing in extended spring training game after off-season Tommy John surgery.

You have to give some credit to Aaron Boone. I know I’ve said in the past, and even to this day, that Boone isn’t cut out to be the manager of the Yankees, but what he has done to help this team get to where they are now is spectacular.

GM Brian Cashman deserves the most credit. He didn’t waste any time getting guys who could fill in while starters where coming back from injury. Adding Cameron Maybin has been a solid addition. DJ LeMahieu has been worth every penny and has been arguably the team’s most valuable player thus far. Gio Urshela has been a breakout star since being called up as well.

After Luis Severino landed on the IL in Spring Training, many looked at Masahiro Tanaka or James Paxton to take over as the ace. No one saw Domingo German coming. German was up and down prior to this season.

He showed promise when he was first called up to the Yankees but soon fell off. Now he is the ace of the rotation and in line to make the All-Star game – and possibly be the starter.

With guys slowly coming off the IL, this team will be even harder to stop as the season progresses.
