Brian Cashman recently spoke to reporters at the GM Meetings and said the Yankees and C.C. Sabathia have a mutual interest for him to return in 2019.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, he tweeted that both the Yankees and 38-year-old left-hander, C.C. Sabathia have mutual interest for him to return to New York for the 2019 season.
However, as Sabathia is now a free agent — and as Brian Cashman stated, that complicates things. Other teams will likely be interested in his services, and they may offer more money. If that happens to be the case, then by all means, please take him.
Even though C.C. has been with the Yankees for nine years, he’s not worth an excessive amount of money anymore. His age and chronic knee issues don’t make him a must-have this offseason.

Sabathia said multiple times last season that he fully intends to pitch in 2019, even if it isn’t in pinstripes. Should he resume his career in the Bronx, one would think it’d be his final shot at a second World Series ring with the Bombers.
In 2018, C.C. went 9-7 with a 3.65 ERA, striking out 140 batters. He really wasn’t bad this year, given the decreased velocity on his fastball and his chronic knee problem which forced him to undergo knee surgery on October 12, 2018.
The good news is that also according to Bryan Hoch, Cashman also told reporters he is interested in adding more than one pitcher.
Baseball people agree that the Yanks need to focus on picking up 29-year-old left-hander Patrick Corbin. The Syracuse-native went 11-7 with a 3.15 ERA, striking out 246 opponents in 200 innings in ’18.
Cashman said that the Yankees have had conversations with CC Sabathia and would "love to have him come back ... I think he'd like to stay and we'd like to keep him. It's a free market, so because of that, that complicates things at times. We'll see where that takes us."

The more pitchers that the Yankees acquire this winter, the merrier. And hopefully, that leads to the Bombers becoming the World Champions in 2019.
