The Yankees were humiliated by the Red Sox in a 14-1 laugher, in the series opener at Fenway Park. It is time to stop the excuses and make some changes.

However early in the season, you want to say it is, the Yankees are now below .500, and it’s time to make changes before the players that make up the 25-man roster become wholly demoralized and fall too far behind a Red Sox team that doesn’t look ready to lose.

Manager Aaron Boone needs to use the very best weapons he has. Miguel Andujar is not major league ready. Ronald Torreyes is and should be on the field instead. Torreyes adds life to the lineup and ignites this team which is lacking fire.

The Red Sox are starting David Price on Wednesday, another left-hander and it is an excellent time to shake things up, starting with the batting order. As for Torreyes, he’s had some success against Price hitting .333 in only six at-bats versus him.

Torreyes is hitting .357 in his 14 at-bats overall, during this early campaign and has played outstanding defense.

His baserunning has also been sparkling, and since the Yanks have had difficulty in this area, why then is Toe sitting in the dugout?

If Neil Walker is going to leadoff against left-handed pitchers, why shouldn’t Torreyes bat second and move Judge down to the three hole?

Didi Gregorius, the Yankees’ hottest hitter, is a much better option than Giancarlo Stanton at cleanup for the time being. Stanton can strikeout just as easily at the No. 5 spot as he can at No. 4.

Batting sixth is Austin Romine, who’s had great success vs. Price, hitting .429 with five RBI in 14 at-bats. Price is well aware of these numbers, so it might provide Stanton with a bit of protection.

Next up is Tyler Austin batting seventh. Currently hitting .250 with two home runs and five RBI, Austin is 3-for-3 against Price with one dinger and two RBI. Austin is good enough defensively and has been seeing the ball well.

Gary Sanchez who needs to break out of his slump should be dropped down in the order until he finds his timing. Hitting eighth might be enough motivation for El Gary to find himself.

If Brett Gardner plays, he should be inserted in the No. 9 spot. Often, number nine is considered by many managers as a second leadoff hitter. Gardner has decent numbers vs. Price, hitting .250 in 36 at-bats while hitting .267 in his last seven games.

Finally, if Masahiro Tanaka puts in a good start and goes six innings, Boone should then rely on Robertson, Betances, and Chapman for the seventh, eighth and ninth. Let’s get back to basics, Mr. Boone.

This Yankees’ manager needs to stop obsessing about the second half of the season and start to worry about the present, or he may find his club 10-to-15 games out of first place by the middle of next month and potentially out of a job by midseason.

The Yanks need to recapture the confidence they had coming into the season. To do so, they need to put up a couple of big wins vs. this Red Sox team. Anything less than a series split will be another massive hit to team morale.
