On Wednesday night, I talked with Nick Goody about his Major League debut last season and what his goals are for the 2016 season

During this week’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I was able to get the privilege to talk to one of the relief pitchers on the New York Yankees, Nick Goody. This is the third straight offseason we have had the chance to talk to Nick and we at Yanks Go Yard thank him for taking the time to talk to us while he gets ready for spring training.

The topics that Nick and I discussed included looking back at what his reaction as when he was called up to the big leagues and what was going through his head when he made his debut on July 30 in Arlington against the Texas Rangers. Goody made seven appearances in 2015 and had a 4.76 ERA in 5.2 innings.

Throughout the second half of the season, Goody was part of a group of relievers who went back-and-forth on the “Scranton Express” between the Bronx and triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Nick told us about his experience going back-and-forth and about a conversation he had about that subject with Wade Boggs last week at an autograph signing in New Jersey.

To wrap up our conversation, Nick and I talked about his goals for 2016, his reaction to the news that Greg Bird will be out for the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, what it will be like to have Aroldis Chapman in the bullpen, and making our picks for tomorrow’s Super Bowl between the Panthers and Broncos.

After my interview with Goody, I gave my take on the Bird injury. While it’s a big blow to the Yankees from a depth standpoint, they don’t need to sign a Pedro Alvarez or a Justin Morneau because Bird was going to start the year in triple-A anyway. Plus, Dustin Ackley did show some good signs down the stretch for New York last season. Plus, hear why I think the Yankees should try to bring Mark Teixeira back next year on a one or two year deal. Yes, Teixeira does have injury concerns, but he was one of the best first baseman in the American League last season before he broke his ankle.

Tune in next week as we will be recording our Spring Training preview episode where I will be giving my top storylines to watch when pitchers and catchers officially report on February 18.
