On the last episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we have more reaction to Chapman being named the closer and we took a closer look at the Dodgers’ offseason.
On Thursday night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I started off the episode by recapping some of the minor league signings the New York Yankees made this week. Those players included pitchers Anthony Swarzak and Tyler Jones as well as infielder Jonathan Diaz. New York also made a small trade with the Dodgers to acquire pitcher Tyler Olson.
The main Yankees’ topic I discussed was manager Joe Girardi naming Aroldis Chapman the closer on last Monday’s episode of Yankees Hot Stove on YES. Personally, I liked the move because it allows all three pitchers to prepare for their roles and it avoids the media having to ask Girardi who was going to be his closer everyday during Spring Training, like last season.

For my featured guest this week, I was joined by Alex Campos, the co-editor of Dodgers’ Way, to discuss Los Angeles’ offseason. It’s been an interesting offseason for Los Angeles as they saw one of their top pitchers, Zack Greinke, sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks and they added a new manager in Dave Roberts. While they haven’t added someone like Greinke to the rotation, they did sign free agent pitchers Scott Kazmir and Kenta Maeda. Alex gave us his take on the expectations for Kazmir and Maeda in 2016.

Finally, I used the last segment of the show to talk about the life of Luis Arroyo as the former Yankees’ pitcher died Wednesday at the age of 88 due to cancer. Our thoughts and prayers from all of us at Yanks Go Yard go out to the Arroyo family.
Arroyo’s best season in New York was 1961 when he went 15-5 and led the league in saves with 29. The Yankees would go on to win the World Series that year against the Cincinnati Reds. The left-hander finished sixth in the MVP voting that season behind Whitey Ford, Norm Cash, Jim Gentile, Mickey Mantle, and Roger Maris (61 home runs that season).
