Yanks Go Yard Radio Show Rewind: 2016 Hall Of Fame Reaction

This week’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show was all about the recent Hall Of Fame vote.
On this week’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I wanted to spend an entire episode reacting to Wednesday night’s Hall Of Fame. While no former New York Yankees will be inducted into Cooperstown this July, two great players will be receiving that honor this year. Those players are Ken Griffey Jr. (99.3% of the vote) and Mike Piazza (83% of the vote from the BBWAA (Baseball Writer’s Association of America).

- No, Yankees should not acquire Trevor Bauer for 2023
- Yankees’ Marwin González replaces Red Sox LF in Japan in logical next step
- Blue Jays overpaying for Yankees trade target shows they’re trying too hard
- Aaron Judge’s influence on Carlos Rodón shows he’s more powerful than Yankees
- Yankees sign 2022 Red Sox reliever, invite him to spring training
For my first guest, I was joined by the associate editor over at Baseball Magazine, Dan Hughes. Dan and I discussed Griffey Jr. getting the highest percentage of any vote in history and does It make a huge difference that three people did not have him on their ballot? Plus, does Griffey Jr. getting close to every vote a good sign that Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera will receive every vote when they are eligible for the Hall Of Fame?
The other subjects that Dan and I discussed our other takeaways from the ballot, including the rise in votes for Mike Mussina and Curt Schilling, why Dan is disappointed that Edgar Martinez isn’t in the Hall Of Fame, and Trevor Hoffman having a good vote total in year one. What are our takes on Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens? Finally, we look ahead to the players who will be on the ballot in 2017, including former Yankees’ catcher, Jorge Posada. What are Posada’s chances of ever making it to the Hall Of Fame?

My second guest on this episode was one of the writers at Rising Apple and co-host of the Rising Apple Report, Michael Lecolant. Mike and I discussed Mike Piazza getting in and what is the reaction from Mets fans. Are Mets fans disappointed it took so long to get the former catcher into Cooperstown? Mike and I also talked about our favorite Piazza’s moments, which included looking back at the 2000 World Series incident between Piazza and Clemens during Game 2.
Next: Decision On Chapman Suspension Coming Soon
Finally, we talked about the Mets’ offseason and their additions of Neil Walker at second base, Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop, and Alejandro De Aza in center field. Should the Mets be making a bigger push to bring back Yoenis Cespedes and will they miss Daniel Murphy now that he will be playing second base for the Washington Nationals in 2016?
