On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the show by giving my takeaways of how All-Star Week went down in Cincinnati. Due to the American League winning the All-Star Game, the New York Yankees would have home field advantage in the World Series, if they make it there. Plus, I discuss how the fans got it right by selecting Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle as the team’s Franchise Four.
Tonight, the New York Yankees (48-40) get their second half of the season underway when they begin a three game series against the Seattle Mariners (41-48) at Yankee Stadium. Back in June, New York swept the Mariners at SAFECO Field and outscored them 15-6 in those three games.

Lloyd McClendon’s squad is 6-6 in their first 12 games of July and they have yet to finish with a over .500 record in any month this season. That being said, one of their key offensive players is starting to heat up. Former Yankees’ second baseman Robinson Cano is hitting .327 this month with two home runs and six RBI’s.
If Seattle is going to make one more push for the postseason, they will need Cano’s bat to help out Nelson Cruz. Cruz (.308, 21 HR, 53 RBI’s) leads the team in home runs, batting average, RBI’s, hits, and on-base percentage (.373). Other than Cruz, Seattle has had a tough time scoring runs this season. They are 27th in runs scored and have the second worst batting average in all of baseball (.236).
In their starting rotation, All-Star Felix Hernandez is not having his best season, but he is still 11-5  with a 2.84 ERA and he has given up two runs combined over his last 20 innings. Seattle’s rotation has a 3.83 ERA, which is fourth in the American League. However, their bullpen has struggled mightily. Seattle’s ‘pen has won seven games this season, which is tied with the Indians for the fewest wins in the AL.
To talk more about the Mariners, I spoke with Brady Farkas, the co-editor at Sodo Mojo, to get his take on the state of the Mariners. Brady gives his take on Seattle’s selections for the Franchise Four and whether or not general manager Jack Zduriencik’s job is safe. Here are some of the other topics we discussed:
