New York Yankees Editorial: Andy Pettitte Has Faith In CC

While many of us on this very site, and many Yankees fans with eyeballs have given up on CC Sabathia, skipper Joe Girardi hasn’t. Neither has former teammate Andy Pettitte.

The lefty lives in Houston and came to throw some BP to the current edition of the Yankees. Pettitte and Sabathia won a ring together in 2009 and went through the ups and downs. Andy believes in CC because Andy had to make his own transition in how he pitched during his career.

"“He’s just got to stay with it,” Pettitte said. “He’s got to trust himself. He’s been a great pitcher for so, so long. He has to continue to go out there and take one pitch at a time. I know it sounds like a cliche, but just continue to work. I tried to work my way through it and I would just tell him the same thing. I think it’ll change.”"

CC and Andy talk on the phone every so often.

"“I ask him a million questions. I always have,” Sabathia said. “That’s how I am, I guess. I don’t know if he can catch every game, but he’ll call me and say, ‘Hey, I caught this,’ or, ‘I saw this pitch in the third inning.’ He’s pretty good about that.”"

Sabathia hasn’t had a month this year that his ERA was below five. He’s given up 109 hits in 87.2 innings. In his last seven starts he’s 1-2 with an ERA of 7.07.

For the Yankees sake, hopefully Pettitte is correct about his former teammate. Otherwise, CC could be a big reason why the Yankees miss the playoffs again this year.
