New York Yankees MiLB News: Greg Bird is Back!

First base prospect Gregory Bird is among one of the most exciting up and coming stars in the New York Yankees farm system. Back in spring training he posted an impressive .353/.421/.706 slash line in 13 games played. Before that, he was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2014 Arizona Fall League after slashing .313/.391/.556 with six home runs and 21 RBI through 99 at-bats.

Obviously with Mark Teixeira occupying first base and Garrett Jones solidifying the backup duties this season, Bird was sent to Trenton to start the 2015 season. After the first month of the season, Bird was hitting a respectable .242/.390/.485.

However, he suffered a shoulder injury in early May which placed the 22-year old prospect on the disabled list, causing him to miss nearly an entire month of action, which in my opinion is the only reason why Greg Bird is still in Tampa as opposed to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Now, Bird is back, and he’s back with a vengeance!

The young first baseman made his return to Trenton on June 4th, and in six games played, he’s hitting .364 with a home run and two doubles. Bird recorded multi-hit performances in three of his six games so far.

If he continues to mash, Bird will find himself alongside Luis Severino and Rob Refsnyder up in AAA in no time.
