New York Yankees Game Recap: Beltran Plus Bullpen Equals Win

The New York Yankees continue to be inconsistent. Two of the most frustrating parts of the team have been the bullpen and Carlos Beltran. Tonight, those two components got the job done as the Yankees finally beat the A’s by the score of 5-3.

The Yankees gave Nathan Eovaldi a early 1-0 lead. Chase Headley and Alex Rodriguez singled. Two batters later, Brian McCann drove in a run for the eighth straight game.

Eovaldi would give the run right back in the third as he struggled to put away hitters and miss bats all night long. He was bailed out in the first by Ramon Flores throwing out a runner at the plate to end the first inning, but couldn’t be this time. Three straight singles by Billy Burns, Marcus Semien and Stephen Vogt loaded the bases. Billy Butler‘s sac fly and Josh Reddick‘s single made it 2-1.

Semien would drive in a run to make it 3-1 in the fourth.

The Yankees would cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth. Jose Pirela reached on an infield hit and Brett Gardner reached on Brett Lawrie‘s error on a rocket to third. Headley would single in Pirela.

Eovaldi couldn’t get out of the fifth. It’s not what you want out of your starter. But Chasen Shreve would keep the Yanks in the game by facing and striking out all four hitters he faced.

In the sixth, McCann would walk and Beltran would launch one out of the park. He would tack on an important RBI single in the eighth.

Between Shreve, Justin Wilson, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller would go 4.1 innings giving up just one hit and striking out eight. That’s what you want.

The Yankees will try and get a split out of this set tomorrow at 4:05. Adam Warren will face Jesse Chavez.
