On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show presented by KNODA.com, we wanted to take a look at the other divisions after doing our State Of The AL East series for each of the last four weeks. When you look at the landscape of Major League Baseball, in my opinion, there are a handful of teams that can win the World Series in the National League, but the American League is wide open. That being said, this is why they play the games.
To breakdown the other five divisions, I spoke with Derek Helling, the editor-in-chief of Outside Pitch MLB. For each of the divisions, we each gave our major storyline to watch as well as a player to keep an eye on. Plus, Derek gives his take on the AL East and who might come out of that division.
One of the storylines that Derek and I discussed was the situation that is taking place with the Chicago Cubs. Third baseman Kris Bryant is having a great spring with nine home runs, but it appears that the organization is going to have Bryant start the year down in triple-A Des Moines, so they can have him under team control for an extra season. Derek and I discussed the merits of that as well as how having one of the top prospects in baseball in the Opening Day lineup could be a huge boost for the Cubs.

After our State Of MLB discussion, I touched on some of the key New York Yankees points from this week. One of the major issues for New York has been Dellin Betances’ rough spring. He has a 6.75 ERA in six appearances and his fastball is down in velocity. Now, this shouldn’t cause fans to wonder why David Robertson isn’t back, but it does make you wonder if Betances can duplicate what he did last season. That’s what makes relievers like Andrew Miller, Justin Wilson, and David Carpenter very important this year.
The other topics I discussed were Adam Warren being the favorite to win the number five spot in the rotation, Alex Rodriguez potentially being the full-time designated hitter, and the great spring for players like Didi Gregorius and Rob Refsnyder are having. That being said, even though Refsnyder is hitting .323 this spring, his five errors show that Stephen Drew is still the Opening Day second baseman, at least for the first couple of months while Refsnyder gets to play everyday at triple-A Scranton.
Plus, we want to remind you that next Thursday (April 2nd), we will be having our Yanks Go Yard Prediction Show where you will find out who I like to win each division, the World Series, and other individual awards.
