Yankees News: Where Can We Expect To See Alex Rodriguez In 2015?

Coming back from his year long suspension, Alex Rodriguez will be looking for his place to fit in this season. The 2015 New York Yankees are going to be a whole other team compared to the 2013 season. The injury ridden team was basically a roulette table that year, you never knew until game day who was going to start. The healthy infield in 2013 consisted of Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, and Mark Teixeira. Come 2015 the presumed starting infield will be Chase Headley, Didi Gregorius, Stephen Drew, and Mark Teixeira.

The Yankees offense last year was abysmal, and nowhere near what anyone expected. Countless times I found myself saying “We need Alex back”. Well now he is coming back, and there’s a dark cloud of speculation over the Yankees organization.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi has made it apparent Alex will be used at three main positions. Designated Hitter, 3rd base, and 1st base. Girardi said this will depend on his health, but I believe that ultimately he will play a near balanced time at each spot. There are a lot of factors that will play into this, all mainly dealing with injuries.

The upside to this is with two older corner infielders, the chance for injury is higher. Depending on his performance, Alex I think is still a good fill in for a day where say Teixeira needs an off day (which he obviously could use some days). No one really knows how Alex is going to hit, but no one can tell me he won’t at least get the job done in most of the situations he’s needed. Situations where we need a run or two through the game, Alex is the best non starter on the team to fit that role.

I think he can still give us quality games, better than what we’ve dealt with from others the last two seasons. The better question for this matter is: Do we really have a choice?

Joe Girardi has made it apparent hes going to give Alex all the time he needs. There is no question he is more than likely to start off extremely sluggish, being out for a year will do that to anyone. However if you put everything into perspective, the team is not asking much at all from Alex. Many feel the Yankees are stuck with him as it is. So with that said, why should we not want him to perform as well as possible?

I think the hardest thing he will have to deal with is fielding. When he came back in the second half of the 2013 season he showed he still had a strong arm, and could still move pretty well. However after a year that might be more intense than getting back in the ‘swing’ aspect of things. I think it would be ideal to see him get more used to first base than third.  I have faith in him, I always have, and always will. Until the new prospects are ready to come up there’s nothing more anyone can do but hope he proves useful to the team.

So where do you think Alex Rodriguez will be most useful this year? Will he even be useful?
