Derek Jeter Receives Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award

Derek Jeter has received yet another award this season, and this one puts him in very exclusive club.
Commissioner Bud Selig presented Jeter with the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award, as well as a check for $222,222.22 for his Turn 2 Foundation. The award is presented to a player who has had a significant impact on the game of baseball, and has been presented only 14 times before.
Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Mariano Rivera, Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey Jr., Tony Gwynn, Rachel Robinson, Vin Scully, Ichiro Suzuki, Cal Ripken Jr., Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and the 2001 Seattle Mariners are all previous recipients of the award.

Commissioner Selig presented the Yankee Captain with the prestigious award before the start of last night’s match-up against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium, as part of the ceremonies for Jeter’s final home series of his career.
