The Yankees dropped their fifth game in a row Friday night 5-0 to the Rays. After going on a hot streak against the Red Sox and Tigers, the Yankees dropped the last two games of the series against the Indians and were swept by the Orioles. They fall to 61-59 which puts them 8.5 games back in the AL East.

The Rays got things started quickly with Evan Longoria and James Loney both driving in runs with RBI fielder’s choice groundouts in the bottom of the 1st. Alex Cobb was able to keep Yankee offense quiet all night going 7.1 innings and only allowing 6 hits while striking out 8.

Brandon McCarthy went 6 innings and gave up 7 hits and 4 runs (2 ER) while striking out 7.

Curt Casali drove in Logan Forsythe with an RBI single to right field in the 7th inning and he would score in the same inning off of a fielder’s choice hit by Ben Zobrist making the score 4-0.
