Game Two

Sometimes, a team just runs out of steam. That’s exactly what happened to the Yankees in the second game of the four-game set with the Tigers. David Price made his Tigers’ debut, and as usual, Brian McCann did his usual damage, hitting yet another home run off the lefty, as the Yankees had an early two-run lead that slipped away late.

It was a solid debut for Price, as he went 8 2/3 innings, struck out 10, but allowed 2 big home runs. They almost sank the Tigers for a second time in two days, but Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi might have stuck with starter Hiroki Kuroda just a tad too long. The 40-year-old went 7 innings, only allowing the three earned runs, but he blew a lead, which eventually forced the Yankees’ bullpen to throw extended innings.

Newcomer Martin Prado led the offense for the Yankees, hitting his first home run in pinstripes, to go along with McCann’s, and Jacob Ellsbury once again had a pair of knocks, but it wasn’t enough to put the Tigers away. The Yankees left 10 men on base, and the bullpen simply ran out of gas and effective arms. Matt Daley gave up what ended up being the game-winning home run to Alex Avila, and the Tigers took Game 2, 4-3 in 12 innings.
