Earlier this morning the New York Yankees announced that they have recalled outfielder Slade Heathcott and catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

This news was announced just one day removed from the Indianapolis Indians eliminating the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the semi-finals of the International League.
For Slade Heathcott, this will mark his second cup of coffee in 2015 with the big league club. Heathcott was called up to the Yankees back in May, where he batted .353 in 18 at-bats with one home run and three RBI before being placed on the DL with a strained quad.
For Gary Sanchez, this will mark the first time in his professional career playing up with the New York Yankees. The former franchise number one overall prospect finally played to expectation this year, slashing .274/.330/.485 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI split between Trenton (58 games) and Scranton (38 games).
With 18 straight innings of baseball set to be played today in the Bronx as part of an old-fashioned double header, it’ll be interesting to see if either Heathcott or Sanchez get any playing time.
It’s likely that both are being called up just in case any players go down with injury. Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury are both a bit banged up and Brian McCann and John Ryan Murphy have seen significant playing time behind the dish as of late.
Rob Refsnyder finally saw some action last night as a pinch-hitter, but with the team in the heat of a playoff race, skipper Joe Girardi is likely to stick with his veterans.
