With all of the pitching news and moves that were made before today’s game, there was also some news on the outfield front. Ramon Flores is back, because Mason Williams has found himself on the 15 day DL with shoulder inflammation.

Flores was hitting .269 in nine games at the big league level.
Jacoby Ellsbury continues to rehab his injury and continues to make progress, however, he won’t be going a rehab assignment quite yet. The Yankees outfield depth has been tested a little bit with the injuries to Williams, Ellsbury and Slade Heathcott.
The only other outfielder on the 40-man roster who isn’t injured or already on the major league roster is Tyler Austin, who’s struggling at AAA, hitting .227/.291/.315 with four homers and 25 RBI in 55 games. Jose Pirela has also played some outfield in the minors. It’s a tough break for Williams, but now Flores gets another opportunity to prove himself at the big league level.
Could the Yankees make a move for another outfielder? Probably not. They’ll wait it out and wait for players to get healthy.
