New York Yankees Game Recap: Tanaka Out-Duels Scherzer As Yankees Win Seven Straight

The hype coming into this game was Masahiro Tanaka vs Max Scherzer. Can Tanaka build off his impressive return to the mound in Seattle? The answer was a resounding yes.

The only run Tanaka would give up was a solo blast by Bryce Harper (he does that from time to time). The New York Yankees used a big rally in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and beat the Washington Nationals 6-1 for their seventh straight victory.

The Yankees first run came on a Stephen Drew solo blast to right in the third. Harper tied it in the fourth with his homer and it would stay that way until the seventh.

With one out, Ramon Flores and Brett Gardner singled. Chase Headley hit a bullet to right but Harper caught it.

That brought up Alex Rodriguez who smashed a groundball to short that Ian Desmond made a diving stop on. The throw however hit Flores and went into the dugout. All the runners moved up and the Yanks had a lead they wouldn’t give up.

That was it for Scherzer as ex-Yankee Matt Thornton came in. Mark Teixeira whose baserunning cost the Yanks a run earlier, was intentionally walked.

Brian McCann smacked a two run single and Carlos Beltran followed with an RBI single of his own.

Drew would hit his second homer of the night to tack on a run in the eighth.

Nathan Eovaldi will get the ball in this conclusion of the two game set at 1:05 tomorrow afternoon. As of this post, the Nationals’ starter is unknown.
