Yankees News: Tracy Up; Shreve Down

Chasen Shreve helped keep the Yankees alive last night with his 3.1 innings of shutout ball. His reward? A trip down to AAA Scranton because he had options left and Esmil Rogers doesn’t. That’s what happens when you play a 19 inning game. The Yankees have a full 40-man roster so they had to do a couple of things to get an additional arm.

Ivan Nova was transferred from the 15 to 60 day DL. Nova is still recovering from his Tommy John surgery and won’t be back until June anyway so it made some sense. When he comes back, the Yankees can make another move to DFA someone or trade someone. Who took the spot?

That goes to Matt Tracy who will serve as a long man out of the bullpen.

Tracy between AA and AAA went 9-8 with a 3.76 ERA. He started 16 of the 18 games he pitched in. In 150.2 innings, he gave up 171 hits, walked 55 and struck out 89 with a 1.50 WHIP. Tracy was the Yankees 24th round pick in the 2011 draft.

Tracy was due to start today for AAA Scranton so he should be fresh and ready to go if the Yankees and Red Sox decide to play 20 innings today.
