Yankees Non-Roster Invitee Profile: James Pazos
By Jason Evans
We here at Yanks Go Yard are doing a unique series this week. With Spring Training in full swing and games beginning next week, it’s not just enough to take a look at the guys you know on the 40-man roster. We are going to profile all of the non-roster invitees into camp.
They could be a veteran looking to extend his career, or a young player trying to prove himself with the big boys. Hey nobody thought Yangervis Solarte was going to make the opening day roster right?
We’ll begin with left-handed reliever James Pazos.

One of the things the Yankees have is a ton of bullpen depth, not only in the majors, but coming up in the minors. The game is becoming more and more about the bullpen, and Pazos is one of those guys.
Pazos started out last season in Tampa and ended up being a part of the bullpen in AA and Trenton and was lights out.
Pazos at AA went 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA. In 42 innings, he struck out 42, only gave up 28 hits and walked 19. Pretty darn good numbers out of the bullpen.
Pazos held lefties to a .163 average, with righties hitting just .203 against him. It shows he’s not just a LOOGY, but someone who can be a crossover guy.
Pazos would be a long shot at making the club. Justin Wilson is gonna make it. Chasen Shreve has a chance as well. You could make the argument that Jacob Lindgren and Tyler Webb may be ahead of Pazos in the prospect pecking order.
Injuries happen, and if Pazos shows his stuff this spring, and continues to dominate in the minors, you could see him at the end of this season as a call-up, or maybe as a guy who could be fighting for a role in the 2016 bullpen.
