Alex Rodriguez Will Have A Very Short Leash In 2015

There is no place for Alex Rodriguez on the 2015 Yankees. Chase Headley has his spot at third base. Mark Teixeira has the other corner at first. DH will (and should) be used by the aging players on the team that need partial days off. Simply, A-Rod does not have a home on this team. It’s the $61 million dollars over the next three years that are forcing the Yankees to try to find him a spot on the squad.

There are many schools of thought on how useful Rodriguez could be for the Yankees in 2015. The facts are he is 40, he has had two hip surgeries, he has not really played pro baseball since 2012, and he has been playing with the help of steroids for a very long time.

Based on those facts, I find it difficult to believe that Rodriguez will be a productive member of the team next season. What’s more, the Yankees shouldn’t give him a chance. If the Steinbrenners believe that it is an honor to don the pinstripes, Rodriguez will never wear them again.

Rodriguez is not simply a steroid user. There are hundreds of those, and I do not believe they should all be banned for life. Rodriguez actually manipulated steroid investigations, brought steroids to other ballplayers, and sued the MLBPA. He has a lot of issues other than being caught sticking himself to try to hit a couple more home runs. He has impacted baseball negatively in ways that no other player has even come near approaching.

The Yankees have said that they are giving Rodriguez a chance in spring training and they hope he will be the everyday DH for the squad. Derek Jeter has retired, but Teixeira, Brian McCann, and Carlos Beltran will be plugging up the DH spot this year.

Between Rodriguez’s reputation in baseball and his clashes with Brian Cashman and Randy Levine, one wrong move may get him cut from the team entirely. This circus is not worth dragging around the team.
