UPDATE: The game has been delayed again in the bottom of the fourth inning as it is raining buckets in the Bronx.
UPDATE: The Yankees have announced they're expecting first pitch at 7:30 p.m. ET. To put it nicely, we'll believe it when we see it.
For anybody attending Monday night's New York Yankees vs San Diego Padres game, feel free to be enraged. It has been gloomy and rainy all day. Weather forecasts have suggested there's next to no reason to play the game. But MLB insisted, it would seem, to keep the start time.
Until a few minutes ago, of course! The game was supposed to begin at 7:05 p.m. ET. The Yankees announced at 4:30 p.m. ET that the gates would be opening at 5:30 p.m. Then, at 6:21 p.m. ET, they let everybody know they "do not intend to start the game on time" just as everybody was likely arriving to Yankee Stadium.
And ... that's it. No further details. Just "be advised" the game will definitely not be starting at 7:05 p.m. ET and you will be purchasing an extra chicken bucket in the cold. Don't go for a pack of Topps cards, though, unless you plan to be taking cover all evening.
Yankees vs Padres Rain Delay, May 5: When will the game start?
We'll be sure to provide updates when they're made available, but for whatever reason Yankees fans are all too used to questionable decisions when it comes to squeezing in games at Yankee Stadium. Very rarely does it seem the fans are front of mind when the league and the team are collaborating to make the call.
On the bright side, the Yankees Rain Delay Forecast is keeping up the vibes with whatever contrarian radar service they're using.
Nonetheless, for the second day in a row the Yankees will be in a weather delay. And it's looking particularly ominous the rest of this week with rain in the forecast through Thursday. Truth be told, we don't what we would do in this situation, but we're also paid to create content and not re-work the MLB schedule while keeping close track of weather patterns.
And in case you were wondering, the Yankees are opting to start a hobbled Anthony Volpe in these precarious conditions while benching Jasson Dominguez against a right-handed starter. We knew it wouldn't take long for us to get infuriated at this team.
