Nasty work.

UPDATE: First pitch is set for 6:55, per Erik Boland. Last pitch? That's anyone's guess.

The New York Yankees are going for their first series sweep since the All-Star break on Thursday in Baltimore, with Gerrit Cole on the bump ... at some point. While it's raining actual buckets in New York City at the moment, the situation in B'more seems to be ... a little less dire? Maybe? At least that's what the head honchos are trying to communicate.

According to a press box voice that communicated from on high with the Yankees' beat, there's a "short delay" coming that will mess with the forthcoming 6:35 PM EST first pitch. Although ... if you read the phrasing of the Orioles' official tweet, things sound a little bit more intense.

Yankees vs. Orioles Series Finale Start Time: Apparently, it won't be long

That makes you wonder ... what postgame festivities are they speaking of here? It's a Christian Faith Night postgame concert, and the later the game goes, the more subject to local sound ordinances that might be.

If and when this game does resume - and, again, "short delay" sounds insane, given the wall of water currently sweeping through the tri-state area, it'll be Cole (on a heater) toeing the slab against Kyle Bradish, the Orioles' ace who comports himself quite well against the Yankees (2-2, 3.40 ERA, though they got him back in May).

The Yankees secured the first two games behind late-and-close clutch hitting, the only way they tend to win games these days. They have the lowest-ranked offense in numerous stats since June 1, but have still managed 28 wins in games where they were trailing or tied in the seventh inning or later, per Katie Sharp. That's the most in baseball. George Lombard Jr. delivered the decisive blow with an infield single on Wednesday with the bases loaded. And, as if the Yankees needed an extra lift, it might be even harder to track fair-or-foul home runs in the wind-swept storm tonight.

Look. This is very annoying. This is the Yankees' final visit to the Charm City this season, and they don't have an off day to play with tomorrow, instead returning home to face off with the scorching Blue Jays. Let's get this overwith, even with a short bullpen?
