One day after escaping the beauty of a domed stadium in a harsh, humid Floridian swap climate, the New York Yankees have been struck by weather issues in Washington. At least they weren't stuck on the tarmac for damn near an entire day like the Boston Red Sox were in Chicago.

This delay is due not to a heavy downpour or mechanical trouble, but rather the Nationals being cautious and monitoring a weather system in the area.

As of 6:07 PM EST, the Nats made it official: they'd be delaying first pitch, originally scheduled for 6:45 PM EST, of their series opener with the Yankees.

When will Yankees vs. Nationals series opener on July 10 begin amid weather delays?

This delay shouldn't be quite as lengthy as the one the Sox just sat through, so I wouldn't expect any of the Yankees to go Full Payton Tolle and crush five doughnuts during the break (though if anyone did feel like doing that, it might be Friday night's starter Ryan Weathers).

The Nationals bring MLB's second-most home runs in 2026 into battle in this one. This may shock Yankee fans, but the Bronx Bombers actually rank first in that category, edging the Nats 135 to 132. New York was limping towards the break, as Joel Sherman pointed out, before finally sprinting towards the tape a little more effectively in their finale at The Trop, touching up Rays starter Drew Rasmussen and forcing Aaron Judge to signal to the bullpen.

Weathers will oppose left-hander Carson Palmquist whenever this game begins; we'll get you first pitch details and timely updates as soon as we are able. The last thing the Yankees - or any other MLB team, for that matter - want to do is find a mutual off day or play a doubleheader before shipping several of their players to Philadelphia for the All-Star Game festivities. Hopefully, the early start time, mixed with a weather system we hadn't heard much about until the clock struck 6:00, will allow them to complete this one as dialed.
