If you enjoyed Goateed Jasson Domínguez on Monday night in Texas, then we have good news for you. It seems like you'll get at least another week to see what he's all about with the big-league Yankees.

The Yankees demoted No. 5 starter Luis Gil after Sunday's tough start in Houston, the latest in a long line of them broken only by his domination of the Red Sox. Instead of promoting a starting pitcher in his place, or a helping hand for the bullpen, the Yankees brought Domínguez up. With Giancarlo Stanton hobbled by some variation on a "calf thing," it seemed like a good idea to get Domínguez some run. The Yankees lingered too long on a Stanton IL decision, but it felt inevitable that they'd eventually come to their senses, place him on the shelf, recall a pitcher, and send Domínguez down whenever Anthony Volpe's rehab assignment was considered complete.

Counterpoint: Well, then!

The Yankees did place Stanton on the Injured List overnight, but have instead promoted utility man Max Schuemann for the time being, according to Boone while appearing on Jomboy Media's Talkin' Yanks podcast.

Yankees' pitching situation also makes bold add after Max Schuemann call-up

Stanton's calf strain is "low-grade," and his IL stint is retroactive to Friday, so there's certainly a chance he won't be down more than an additional 10 days or so (though we all know how Stanton's body typically heals and how careful the Yankees like to be with him).

The roster oddity here is that, while the Yankees don't need a fifth starter this week, they'll certainly need one before Carlos Rodón is ready to return. There's an opening on May 5, and Rodón needs a pair of rehab starts before he'll be elevated. That means Schuemann - hitting .203 with a .659 OPS - will be your "jack-of-all-trades" placeholder for either that pitcher or Volpe. The Yankees, with two uncuttable long men in Ryan Yarbrough and Paul Blackburn, will play a pitcher short in the interim.

Instead of an uninspiring bullpen game on May 5, though, the Yankees are taking an additional chance - Elmer Rodriguez is coming up for his MLB debut, likely against Baltimore over the weekend. Will Shuemann go directly down? Which other roster spot could be utilized to facilitate this cameo?

In either case, it seems the Yankees are content with their 'pen and would rather take a longer look at Domínguez than add an arm (whether a filler pitcher or a higher-upside one).
