UPDATE: Jasson Dominguez is expected to miss a few weeks with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. The good news, however, is that he did not suffer a concussion.

Jasson Dominguez's scary collision with the outfield wall left Yankees fans speechless after the first at-bat of Thursday's series finale against the Rangers. He was carted off after being evaluated by the training staff and Aaron Boone had to shift the lineup around.

A few hours later, the team provided an update on the young slugger, who was making just his second appearance on defense since getting called up in late April.

Dominguez, to no surprise, is dealing with possible head and shoulder injuries. Bryan Hoch reported mid-game that Dominguez was examined by Dr. Chris Ahmad and was placed in concussion protocol. That's ... particularly concerning given the trauma Yankees fans have from Clint Frazier's concussion issues after multiple run-ins with the outfield wall.

On top of that, Dominguez is undergoing an MRI on his left shoulder, which feels like this situation will almost guarantee a stint on the injured list. The concussion protocol alone suggests the Yankees will need to tread lightly.

As one can expect, Yankees fans are not taking this well. They were beyond excited for Dominguez's promotion after Giancarlo Stanton's injury and now feel terrible for the kid after he put his body on the line to make a tremendous play.

Yankees staring down the barrel of Jasson Dominguez missing weeks of action

The only silver lining here is that the Yankees have a potential solution with Spencer Jones raking at Triple-A. He leads all of the minor leagues with 41 RBI on the season and has been hot as of late, crushing homers and forcing the issue for the Yankees.

But fans have been on their journey with Dominguez far longer than they've been with Jones. Dominguez has been a fan-favorite prospect for a long time, and his 2023 debut provided hope like no other. Unfortunately, he needed Tommy John surgery that offseason and it derailed his entire 2024 campaign.

His play suffered a bit in 2025, which resulted him getting squeezed out of the rotation as Trent Grisham emerged. But he took every demotion in stride. He provided good at-bats off the bench and was an excellent pinch runner from August until the end of the year. Then he performed well at Triple-A after he was demoted there out of spring training.

It's unclear when there will be more concrete information on Dominguez's situation, which makes it that much harder for fans to rest easy, even with an emphatic victory on Thursday afternoon.

Whatever it may be, expect Dominguez to hit the IL and miss a minimum of 10 days. We're hoping it's not longer than that, but the early returns don't have anybody feeling too optimistic.
