The Yankees are set to host the White Sox and Reds this week as they attempt to navigate the most injuries they've suffered from all year. Trent Grisham was the latest casualty, hitting the IL on Saturday after a hamstring injury forced him to leave Friday's opener against the Blue Jays.

On Tuesday's episode of Talkin' Yanks, manager Aaron Boone provided a number of updates on this front, leading the way with Grisham. To nobody's surprise, the 10-day designation is hardly accurate with the center fielder's hamstring strain.

Boone said it'll probably be "weeks" before Grisham is back in the fold, and suggested it could be a good thing he's getting a bit of down time at this juncture (he also mentioned Grisham tweaking his knee not too long ago). That said, Grish was the team's hottest hitter over the past couple of weeks before hitting the shelf. In the meantime, the Yankees have the necessary outfield surplus to get by.

Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez are here, and they could use extended run. Jose Caballero has been logging more outfield reps with Anthony Volpe back in the mix too.

Speaking of Dominguez, he's out of Tuesday's lineup against Chicago after getting a tooth pulled. It'll be Jones in center, Caballero in right and Cody Bellinger in left against right-hander Davis Martin.

Dominguez was dealing with a tooth infection and will be available to play tonight if needed, but it's probably best if he takes the night off given his recent hectic travel situation. He was called up late Friday night, arrived at the Rogers Centre an hour and a half before the start of Saturday's game, and loaded up on caffeine to make sure he was good to go.

Austin Wells starts rehab assignment, Max Fried progresses for Yankees

Boone had some other news regarding Austin Wells and Max Fried. Wells is starting a rehab assignment with Triple-A on Tuesday as he makes his way back from cervical headaches. It turns out everything's been OK with the starting catcher and he should be back soon. We suspect they'll move relatively quickly here, too.

Wells has been bad for the better part of two years now, but JC Escarra has done nothing to state his case. In fact, Escarra was optioned the day before Wells reported his neck pain/headaches, which them prompted the Yankees to put him on the IL and recall Escarra. He's 2-for-11 with a run scored during Wells' absence.

Another slow-moving situation features Fried. The left-hander suffered a bone bruise in his throwing elbow on May 13 and has been lightly working his way back ever since. Recently, he was throwing from 120 feet, and Boone confirmed the left-hander would throw a side session on Tuesday as the next step in his rehab.

It doesn't necessarily give us a clear timeline, but it reveals Fried is moving in the right direction. Expect to see him back in at least 2-3 weeks. Much like the outfield situation, though, the Yankees have enough starters to get by, and they're catching a break with Munetaka Murakami out for the White Sox and Elly De La Cruz out for the Reds.
