WFAN is a content gold mine. No matter what New York sports team is on blast, you will be entertained. You simply have no choice. The takes can be outrageous, the callers have a tendency to be completely deranged, and the New York "aggression" is alive and well in every discussion. And it appears the New York Yankees pushed them to the brink after the Subway Series.

A little civil war between local sports team opened the floodgates for some of the hosts. Don't forget, the biggest names at the company in Greg Giannotti, Boomer Esiason, Evan Roberts and Sal Licata are Mets fans. They, too, watched Juan Soto and the Mets get taken to task in the Bronx.

In the early morning slot, Gio (Giannotti) said Soto "doesn't look like he's trying too hard" and that the criticism coming his way is "warranted." That topic became more widely discussed after Soto was seen not hustling to first base on a ground ball to second baseman DJ LeMahieu in the top of the eighth inning. Had Soto booked it out of the box, he would've had a solid chance of making it safely given how close the play ended up being.

That created a stir on social media in a brief moment where some Mets fans lost their cool with an anti-Soto moment. We get it, we've been there with star players before. But WFAN couldn't help themselves as the self-loathing Mets fandom started to take hold like a virus.

Gio then said it "was almost like [Soto] was afraid of the fans to go up and get that ball" with his attempt to rob Cody Bellinger's grand slam that went over the short porch in the bottom of the eighth inning. "It seemed to me it deserved a little bit more of an effort from him," he continued.

WFAN has Juan Soto-led meltdown after Yankees' Sunday Night Baseball victory

And that was just the early morning slot! At 10 a.m., Sal Licata blew a gasket over Soto's perceived "comfortability" in Queens. Despite the Mets' hot start to 2025, Soto hasn't been performing to his elite capabilities. From a general baseball fan lens, it was actually viewed as a silver lining. The Mets? The second-best team in the NL? With Soto lagging behind? Just wait until he gets going.

But he did not get going this weekend. In fact, it might've been his worst showing at any point this season. Put that alongside the "return to the Bronx" narrative during which he was mistreated by Yankees fans, and you have this special meltdown:

Guess what? He's not wrong! Imagine if the situation was reversed. Yankees fans would be on another planet right now if they had to hear it from Mets or Red Sox fans about the highest-paid player in history appearing to be rattled during the biggest moment of the season to date.

We're just appreciating this while we can because we've seen how ugly it gets when the Yankees get mired in the doldrums. We don't know when that will come, but we will not pass up the few opportunities we have to kick the opposition while they're down ... or, in Soto's case, when he's on a private jet away from all of his teammates. Kidding! Just a joke.
