New York Yankees fans won't have many opportunities in the coming years to make fun of the generational talent that is Roman Anthony. That's why it's so important — in good humor, of course — to seize any of these opportunities whenever they do arise, and Saturday's Red Sox-Reds game provided a great one.
With the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 11th, Anthony fielded a single on one hop in left and was tasked with throwing out designated runner TJ Friedl at the plate. Friedl was booking it from second base, and Anthony's chances of saving the game were already slim. But Anthony didn't do himself any favors with his throw home, which attracted a crowd of online mockery from Red Sox haters.
The throw from Anthony fell far short of its target, hitting the ground about sixty feet from the plate and suffering five feeble hops before ultimately dribbling its way into catcher Connor Wong's glove by the time Friedl was already rising from his game-winning slide.

Roman Anthony's awful throw home has Yankees fans beaming from ear to ear
It was a weak defensive moment for Anthony that capped a productive first two games of the season offensively (4-for-9, RBI, two walks), serving as another reminder that the phenom isn't as immortal-seeming with his glove and/or arm as he is when wielding a bat.
Remember Anthony's Red Sox debut last June, when he committed an ugly error in right field? It almost felt like a sign of things to come, as if his slightly flawed abilities as a defensive player would be the only blemish on the rest of his Hall of Fame-level player profile.
Saturday night's dud throw was the continuation of that narrative, which Yankees fans are going to embrace on the rare occasion that it rears its embarrassing head. Of course, these same fans were even more empowered to troll Anthony and the Red Sox, having just watched their Yanks pull off a season-opening sweep of the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.
Plus, we're still only a couple of weeks removed from Aaron Judge proving in the World Baseball Classic that the Yankees' offensive superstar can also extinguish runners with laser throws from the outfield.
So yes, Yankees fans are definitely relishing the weak sauce throw from Anthony on Saturday. But in this arguably pathetic tradition of Yankees and Red Sox fans trolling each other's players, the tables are bound to turn in due time, either with Anthony hitting a walk-off blast against New York, or more improbably, Judge committing another iconic error.
Boston lost again on Sunday, giving the Yankees a two-game lead over the Red Sox with 159 games remaining on the schedule. The season is about as young as possible, but that won't stop fans from smiling at the expense of their rivals' players, especially the really good ones.
