Baseball media absolutely shredding Aaron Boone should send message to Yankees

This isn't a coincidence!

Typically, the New York Yankees are an easy target. If they win, they "bought" their roster and don't deserve it. If they lose, they spent all that money and are pathetic. If somebody makes a mistake, it's magnified on the back pages and across the national media landscape. This is life in New York.

But what's happened over the past few days is a much different type of coverage. The Yankees have avoided warranted criticism for a decent while as they masked their deficiencies with some otherworldly play that was bound to run out.

They're now in the midst of an MLB-worst stretch of play, which is simply unacceptable for a team that employs Aaron Judge and Juan Soto on the offensive end. We know baseball teams are not impervious to slumps and bad stretches, but this is a trend with the Yankees.

From 2020-2024, the Yankees have endured a run of 5-15 or worse four times under Aaron Boone, and 2021 featured a low-energy bare-minimum 90-win team that got embarrassed on national television by their chief rival. That's been the story since 2018.

Coincidence? This has all happened with Boone leading the way. Yes, the roster is imperfect, but there are more than enough pieces here to not only contend, but to avoid embarrassing media coverage. Boone has once again let it all spiral, and he's feeling the wrath from everybody now.

MLB Network: Check! All of Chris Russo, Mark DeRosa and Brian Kenny had varying degrees of criticism for Boone, which is enough for us.

Then there's Joel Sherman of the New York Post. He never shies away from blasting the Yankees, particularly Brian Cashman. But his well-timed criticisms zoned in on Boone this time around, and he echoed the fact that the manager isn't grounded in reality at times as he works tirelessly to defend his players for reasons unbeknownst to us.

New York Post: Check!

How about a double dosage of WFAN now! You might roll your eyes because the sports radio network is a outlandish at times and chases the low-hanging fruit to yell about, but these rants from Brandon Tierney and Boomer Esiason couldn't be more spot on, especially as it pertains to the fan perspective.

"Aaron Boone is not the right fit for the Yankees." For the fifth year in a row, this team has needed a colossal kick in the a--, as Tierney said. And he's right: their manager will never do it.

In a more measured approach, Esiason went as far to talk about respect and image. He's right, too. Why are grown men acting like children under Boone's guidance? Isn't that a problem?

WFAN: Two Checks! And of course, you got the big ol' checkmark from Yanks Go Yard this week, right after the Sunday Night Baseball loss to the Boston Red Sox. None of this is a coincidence. It's not an instance of the media latching on to an easy target and running with it for the sake of clicks, views or exposure.

Don't forget, the YES Network and Michael Kay have made their voices heard on this, too!

The Yankees have a legitimate problem and it stems from whatever messaging is occurring in the dugout/clubhouse. Boone has been at the helm for far too long for this to be overlooked during yet another season that's slowly turning into a letdown. The pressure is the realest it's ever been, and it's up to the Yankees to appropriately act on it.
