Like Trent Grisham said on the postgame after Monday's win over the Seattle Mariners, "Oswaldo is the best of us." And New York Yankees fans were reminded of that once again on Thursday night after Cabrera took to Instagram.

On Monday, Cabrera suffered a brutal ankle injury that saw him taken off the field in an ambulance. It was an innocent play as he was tagging up from third base to score a run, and it somehow ended in disaster. With the Yankees up 11-5, fans completely loss interest in anything about the game when Cabrera went down.

It took mere minutes for fans to flood social media, wishing Cabrera well and hoping for the best. For as ruthless Yankees fans can be, they're certainly an emotional bunch, and their support meant a ton to Cabrera, who admitted he was in a dark place.

In a lengthy IG post, Cabrera thanked everybody for the support, crediting it for helping him get through what was a difficult reality to cope with. He might not have been dominating early in 2025, but he was getting comfortable with consistent everyday reps and greatly helping a team that's navigating injuries. Now, he probably won't see the field until 2026.

Oswaldo Cabrera shows love to Yankees fans in emotional post-injury Instagram post

The first comment under the post? From former Yankee Ron Marinaccio, who said "Love you brother, you are built for this." Ashley Rodón sent her love, too. Just from those two responses, you can see how far Cabrera's positivity and infectious energy spreads.

And that's exactly why Yankees fans were hit hard by this unfortunate event. Cabrera is a key piece to the Yankees' success. He's a team player through and through. He's a gentle soul with a blessed bandwidth to see the brighter side of things. He simply loves what he does and he sees the best in everybody around him. If he were a Ted Lasso character, he'd be Dani Rojas.

Cabrera represents the human element of the game the Yankees have been devoid of to a certain degree ever since 2018. It finally felt like it was all coming together in 2025, as this version of the Bombers has been playing with more heart, energy and intention. Or, at least, it feels that way. And Cabrera's everyday presence seemingly had an influential effect.

Perhaps the rest of the team can learn a little from Cabrera and harness some of his spirit for the rest of the way. We know that'd mean a lot to him.
