The worst version of the New York Yankees is when they're slumping, playing sloppy baseball, and not rising to the occasion ... yet find all the time in the world to chirp at the umpires and complain about calls not going their way. It's been a trend since 2021, and it was magnified on Tuesday night when Jazz Chisholm Jr. got tossed for jawing with the home plate ump.
The moral of the story? If you're constantly in a position to be at the mercy of a borderline call, then you're not doing enough. Also, if you're carving out consistent time to find a scapegoat whose impact on the game hardly affects your performance, then your priorities are out of whack.
In a vacuum, Jazz going off about a call that was made against him in the top of the ninth was a tough look, but it was warranted. He ended up hurting his team by getting tossed (and the Yankees lost in the 11th inning) ... but is it possible he lit a fire under a slumbering team that badly needed it?
Bad PR for sure but ... good motivation tactic? He legitimately lost his mind and got his money's worth. Another important thing to note here is that he's arguably been the Yankees' best hitter over this terrible stretch of play, so it's not like he was using a botched strike call as an excuse for his output.
Have the Yankees used their complaining to their advantage, finally?

Jazz Chisholm's ejection was a bad look for Yankees (but here's why it could help)
It got to the point where manager Aaron Boone, who is usually the one to blow a gasket, had to hold Chisholm back because the situation was getting out of hand. It's not something you want to see frequently but ... it's definitely a possible worthwhile rallying cry when your team can't do anything right.
The Yankees haven't had somebody provide this type of spark in quite some time. Usually, outside of Boone, their ejections are low-energy and their whining is nitpicky. And it takes weeks and weeks to dig out of rudimentary ruts because of an overall lack of urgency.

Chisholm might've flown off the rails, and it might've been a little excessive, but if he was able to send a message to the rest of his teammates to wake up and smell the coffee, then it could be a job well done. We understand misdirecting blame can be viewed as a cop out, but the Yankees need just about anything right now.
They are 10-12 in June. The offense has plummeted to one of the worst in MLB over the last two weeks. They are literally the worst extra-inning team in the league. These cold streaks need to stop spiraling out of control, and we can only hope Jazz helped stop the bleeding.
