Every year, some poor, unfortunate soul is forced to ride the DFA Wagon into submission until finally, blessedly, landing somewhere out of the spotlight that affords them a chance to rebuild their value in a pressure-free environment. We thought that's what happened to Yoendrys Gómez when he went from the Yankees to the Dodgers to the White Sox in recent weeks. Oh, we were so wrong about that.
Gómez, sadly, is on the Roansy Contreras trajectory these days, except without a solid start in Pittsburgh to fall back on. The Yankees initially let him go on April 22 in order to make room for Tyler Matzek's debut; ironically, Matzek himself is now gone, electing free agency after being cut loose to make room for Jonathan Loaisiga.
The righty, entering spring training without options, won a bullpen spot outright, but his FIP indicated that he wasn't fooling as many people as it seemed on the surface while soaking up innings in the Bronx. He risked his health pitching in a monsoon behind Marcus Stroman, but thankfully made it out of that disastrous outing unscathed.
Clearly, his talent remains tantalizing, but after being claimed by the Dodgers, his struggles (twice against the Marlins) left LA no choice but to send him packing as well — and they're desperate for live arms.
Gómez found his way to the rebuilding White Sox, but only lasted three outings in a bullpen we thought he might be able to hide in for the remainder of the season. He allowed three runs to the Cubs — sandwiched between a pair of shutout outings against the Reds and Mariners — before becoming the corresponding move to the Adrian Houser signing on Tuesday afternoon.

Houser makes more sense as an ol' chuck at the dartboard for the Sox, given that he has starter upside and a longer track record. But still ... geez ... what does Gómez have to do to get a break in this industry?
Maybe he'll finally fall all the way down the ladder through the claiming process this time and the Yankees can stash him at Triple-A on a minor-league reunion pact? Might be nice.
