Heading into Game 5 of the World Series, the baseball world has been fully distracted by the two New York Yankees fans who grabbed Mookie Betts in an attempt to prevent him from catching a fly ball in the stands.

It was certainly inappropriate and punishable as well as unusual and confusing, but is it really surprising? We just saw Los Angeles Dodgers fan hurl trash and baseballs at opposing San Diego Padres players. Was this really the tipping point for some of you behavior purists out there?

Dodgers fans have been extremely bent out of shape about it, and it's only been getting worse by the hour. The louder you whine, the more backlash you face. And, while the Yankees made good, awarding the tickets to a pediatric cancer patient and his family, Dodgers fans remain unsatisfied. They are not going to like what former Dodger Alex Verdugo had to say on the matter.

When asked about it on Wednesday, Verdugo had both a calm yet controversial response to the Tuesday night Betts incident. Beware as well, Red Sox fans! You'll figure out a way to cry about this, too.

Dugie actually hyped up Yankees fans by citing the crowd's "passion." We wouldn't say that's necessarily something to endorse, but he was also telling the truth. New Yorkers were backed into a corner down 0-3 in the World Series and pulled out as many stops possible.

Verdugo definitely wasn't condoning the behavior either, as he noted that it was an extreme occurrence. He was also right in saying that it didn't end up being too serious. Could it have been worse? Absolutely. But we luckily got out on the other side with nobody injured, the game not being impacted, and those fans being barred from Yankee Stadium for Game 5.

Dodgers fans have held some bizarre resentment against Verdugo despite him being a former well-liked top prospect and the centerpiece trade chip in the Betts deal with the Red Sox. Oh ... now you're going to call out his past transgressions/accusations after conveniently ignoring them when he was on your team? Yes, fandom! That's how it works.

Verdugo did his absolute best not to ruffle any feathers here which ... might've actually ruffled some feathers. That's the best kind of response to have, and hopefully it gets under the Dodgers' skin for this final home game in the Bronx.
