New remarks from New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and super agent Scott Boras make it sound like Cody Bellinger will re-sign with the Yanks this offseason. Bellinger fans in the Bronx are delighted by the development, especially with recent events having made Belli’s return feel uncertain or even doubtful.
Cashman extending Trent Grisham the qualifying offer didn’t appear to bode well (though Grisham will reportedly reject the QO), and there’s an obvious presence of other powerful Bellinger suitors (including the New York Mets).
It sounds like Cashman is gung-ho about bringing Bellinger back, though, for whatever that’s worth. The long-tenured GM spoke to reporters about this on Wednesday during a video call.
Brian Cashman says the Yankees want to re-sign Cody Bellinger, and Scott Boras seems receptive
"We're very interested in bringing (Bellinger) back," Cashman said, per ESPN’s Jorge Castillo. "We'd be better served if we could retain him. But if not, then we'll have to look at alternatives, ways to fill it and see where that takes us. But it's pretty early in the process. But I said it before, and I'll say it again: Of course we'd like to have him back."
Interestingly, Cashman also said during the call that the Yankees would still pursue Bellinger even if Grisham decided to accept the $22.025 million qualifying offer, per Castillo.
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel recently estimated Bellinger’s market value to be in the realm of six years, $165 million.
One man who surely has a crystal clear understanding of that market value is Belli’s agent, Scott Boras, who also made comments suggesting that Bellinger and the Yankees are a great match.
"I just think the whole dynamic suited them and suited him," Boras said about Bellinger’s 2025 season in pinstripes, per Castillo. "It was really an ideal fit. It was really a well-made ride for everybody."
"He's really a five-tool player, we just don't find many athletes like that, and then also proven in every major market."

Taken together, Boras’s and Cashman’s comments are making Yankees fans feel confident about a Bellinger return. To Boras’s point, the baseball fit for Bellinger in the Bronx is obvious. Bellinger had one of the best seasons of his career in 2025 (his first as a Yankee). Beyond his lefty-mashing bat, the Yankees love Bellinger’s defensive versatility; then again, so does every other team interested in his services and capable of paying for them.
Bellinger is expected to be the second-highest paid outfielder in free agency this offseason, behind only Kyle Tucker. At the end of the day, unless Cashman has a problem paying that kind of money to Bellinger, there’s no reason the former MVP shouldn’t be hitting behind Aaron Judge once again when 2026 Opening Day rolls around.
