Up three games to two in the literal World Series, Toronto Blue Jays fans have a golden opportunity to pivot away from making their entire personality "Beating the Yankees". And yet ... here we are.
The Jays, a chemistry-bonded last-to-first grit squad that never gives up and led the world in comebacks this season, appear to be a team of destiny. The Yankees were one of their primary victims this season, certainly. They stalked New York from behind in the early summer. They rebuked Michael Kay's brief peek at the run differential charts, proving they were, indeed, a first-place team. They matched the Yankees blow-for-blow in late September, holding onto the AL East despite being hobbled by the loss of Bo Bichette. Finally, of course, they recovered from an historic Game 3 blown lead to silence the Yanks' vaunted offense in Game 4, capturing an ALDS clash that seemed to mean equal parts "The Blue Jays Win!" and "DAAAA YANKEES LOSE," for both Vlad Jr. and the national media alike.
Sending the Yankees packing will always be a significant part of this team's narrative. Of course it will. But so will defeating the Mariners, coming back from the dead and a 2-0 deficit, as well as trailing 3-1 in Game 7, to capture the pennant. And so will beating the big, bad Dodgers, the team that took the torch from the Yankees as the super franchise of the century, supposedly breaking baseball and fueling a new generation of hatred in the process.
And yet ... as Trey Yesavage dominated in Hollywood, guess who they were still thinking about.
Yankees fans really compared Twitter fingers “Cam Schlittler” to Trey Yesavage LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Blue Jays fans still obsessed with Yankees during World Series dominance against Dodgers
"Honey, before we read our vows, you've got to read this crazy tweet. This Yankee fan actually thinks Cam Schlittler is better than Trey Yesavage!"
When the Jays won their second game of the series, many anxious Torontonians mouthed, "Just two more," as visions of Paul Molitor danced in their heads. But some of them celebrated "officially surpassing the 2024 Yankees peak," gloating about winning half a series to a team they left in the rearview weeks ago.
The 2025 Toronto Blue Jays have officially surpassed the 2024 Yankees peak, Aaron Judge will be remembered as an overrated bum while Vladdy will be remembered as a playoff riser I love my life so much

And if you think it's sad to see Jays fans still arguing with invisible Yankees fans who live inside their heads, wait 'til you get a load of Mets fans who are still doing it.
It’s really great seeing a team go toe to toe with the Dodgers in the World Series after last year. Blue Jays look like they belong on this stage. Yankees looked like they weren’t in the same league.

Brother, I wish I could type louder: Your team signed Juan Soto, then flamed out of the playoff race historically. Didn't even make it to October. You lose this round. Spinning the Blue Jays' success as the Yankees' failure, if you're a Mets fan ... you're a Mitt Romney voter in a Mamdani shirt.
Alright, Toronto fans, Mets fans ... fans of every other MLB team, for some reason. Here's your next challenge: Don't respond to this article. I know you want to! I know you want to make your title about a team that only one of you defeated three weeks ago instead of beating the new "Mecca of Baseball" titleholders in Los Angeles. But resist. I know you have it in you.
If nothing else, this past week has proven that, no matter how much the Dodgers "break baseball," the national hatred is performative. They will never be despised as much as the Yankees still are, despite 15 years of faceplants. Just so we're aligned.
