The New York Yankees are not having a good time right now. After staking themselves to a healthy lead in the AL East, the Yankees have squandered that good work after going 6-14 in their last 20 games and playing like a team that has plans this October that don't involve playing baseball. Unfortunately, that has left them wide open to ridicule and Blue Jays broadcaster Jamie Campbell did not miss the opportunity.
Earlier this week, Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay took a shot at Toronto in calling them "not a first-place team" after the Blue Jays caught the Yankees in the standings. In fairness to Kay, he was talking about the two teams run differential and, strictly speaking, New York has looked more like a first place team than the Blue Jays on paper.
However, games are not played on paper and Yankees just got swept by those same Blue Jays. It is safe to say that the Blue Jays' TV crew heard Kay's comments and were happy to help him eat them.

Blue Jays TV crew blasting Michael Kay just made sweep of Yankees feel even worse
In terms of troll jobs, this one is pretty tame. While Campbell made it clear that they had heard Kay's comments, he just simply said that Kay is going to have change his tune basically. Objectively speaking, this was a missed opportunity to call the Yankees "not a first place team" and run through some numbers that make the Yankees look bad. A classic case of the Canadians being too nice for their own good.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jays' crew is 100% right and the Yankees no longer sit atop the AL East. Since June 13, the Yankees offense and pitching staff have both ranked in the middle of the pack, but one or the other seems to completely not show up on any given night and the lack of clutch moments is incredibly frustrating. The result has been a painful collapse for a New York squad that looks more like a fringe wild card team than one with actual playoff aspirations.
The Yankees do have a chance with the upcoming series against the floundering Mets followed by the Mariners coming to New York. Of course, both of those teams are "not first place teams" right now and we just saw what happened the last time the Yankees played against one.
