Ben Verlander just tried (and failed) to get Yankees fans off his back over terrible tweet

Just take the L and move on, Ben.

Ben Verlander always finds his way into social media headlines in connection with the New York Yankees. The former minor leaguer-turned-analyst/podcaster has been accused in recent years of being both a closeted Yankees fan and an irrational Aaron Judge hater.

Of course, Verlander's been monitoring the Yankees' struggles of late, and he took the opportunity last Sunday to try and exploit those struggles for the sake of salvaging one of his older, highly questionable takes. And, well ... it didn't work.

Citing the Yankees' recent series losses to the Milwaukee Brewers (sweep), Baltimore Orioles, and New York Mets (particularly horrific), Verlander re-tweeted a controversial/terrible take of his from December 2024 (see below) in which he predicted that Juan Soto would choose the Mets in free agency because the Mets are "set up better to win [the World Series] over the next decade than the New York Yankees are".

Ben Verlander gets blasted all over again for hideous Juan Soto-Yankees tweet from two years ago

"Welp," Verlander wrote in his re-tweet. "After getting swept by Milwaukee and losing 2 of 3 to the Orioles AND THE METS… Maybe Yankee fans will stop quote tweeting this for a little while."

Or ... maybe they won't, Ben? X account @BronxBmbrz responded to Verlander's re-tweet with some deadpan humor, writing, "You’re right Ben, a bad stretch that every team has determines that the Mets are more of a championship-caliber team than the Yankees".

And it only got worse:

Also ... why would you think bringing up an old tweet that Yankees fans hated and continue to interact with would make them stop when that old tweet is not even close to seeing the light of day with your "prediction"?

It's odd that Verlander is choosing to beat the dead horse that is the Soto-Mets-Yankees narrative, with Soto having made multiple comments over the past couple of years strongly suggesting that he misses Judge and the Yankees. Soto even blatantly said this past offseason that the 2024 Yankees season was one of his favorite seasons of baseball ever, and he'd played a full season with the Mets at that point. Turns out the 2025 collapse and the weekly horrors of 2026 don't seem to be making the experience any better!

If you're going to do the whole Mets-are-better-than-the-Yankees schtick, first of all, good luck. But second of all, stay far away from any Soto narratives — those won't do anything but make you look like you're contradicting yourself.
