Oh, you thought Shohei Ohtani was MLB The Show’s only cover athlete for 2022? Well, button up, coward, because it looks like the Yankees are going to be represented, too.

Seems as if the Deluxe Edition Cover Art being announced on Feb. 2, 2022 isn’t a coincidence after all. Funny how, in a world where marketing is everything, that seemed to work out.

Yes, Ohtani was a slam-dunk to earn the primary cover, just as Fernando Tatis Jr. was last season. No grand shock there. Both men dominated the game the season prior and both men ooze marketability. The foregone conclusion of Ohtani’s crowning was cemented on Monday.

The game’s producers did have a trick up their sleeve, though.

Nobody wanted this information disseminated before 2/2, but Nintendo’s online store revealed that there’s a Derek Jeter edition en route, as well, which means Yankee fans everywhere might be flocking to grab a hard copy of the latest edition of The Show.

To … frame it, maybe?

Yankees Icon Derek Jeter has an MLB The Show 22 cover.

And stay tuned for 3/4, when MLB The Show 22 announces its very special “David Ortiz Hall of Fame Edition” that tries to get to the bottom of how the hell he got in first-ballot!

We won’t know much about what makes this edition so special until Feb. 2, of course, but it’s only fitting Jeter got some additional love this year considering how badly the pandemic botched what should’ve been a massive outpouring of crowd enthusiasm for No. 2 in Cooperstown circa Summer 2020. Instead, he got his ceremony canceled, then shuffled to the fall … which was fine, but not enough.

You know how this game could get even better? If the folks behind The Show include a ’99 Jeter card so the gaming community gets to play with the man at the peak of his powers.

Unless they decide to import “2000 All-Star Game Jeter,” we’re not sure if the man was ever hotter than he was in ’99.

We’re looking forward to the official reveal and some inside scoops on the special features. Is there a “downward fist pump” button? When you cut to the stands, are Dr. Charles Jeter and Dorothy Jeter there? What about his nephew tipping his cap with utmost Re2pect? Carlos Correa locked out of Yankee Stadium until he apologizes for his Jeter comments?

Just gotta wait two more days, that’s all.
