Once again, the New York Yankees didn’t make it easy, but they took home a victory on Monday night over the Texas Rangers. After going up 4-0 early, Texas scored three unanswered runs and kept New York on its toes for the remainder of the contest. Of course, the Yankees didn’t score again. They took it down to the wire.

Think fans can finally get a bit of a breather against one of the worst teams in MLB? It sure would be nice after that uninspiring 4-3 stretch against the Twins, Orioles and Indians.

Thankfully, the Yankees got some help on Monday night when the Rays came back to defeat the Blue Jays, who now hold a slim 0.5-game lead over New York in the AL Wild Card race. Boston’s margin got knocked down to 2.0 games since the Red Sox didn’t play on Monday.

Let’s take a look at the Yankees-Rangers betting preview for Tuesday night. Maybe there’s an opportunity to make some cash and enjoy the Bombers gaining ground in the playoff picture.

Yankees vs Rangers Odds Today

According to WynnBET, the Yankees are the favorites on the moneyline at -260 (bet $260 to win $100) and run line with the -1.5 handicap at -130 (bet $130 to win $100). The Rangers, unsurprisingly, are the underdogs for both bets, coming in at +205 on the moneyline (bet $100 to win $205) and +110 with the +1.5 run advantage (bet $100 to win $110).

The over/under for total runs scored is 8.5, with the over priced at +100 (bet $100 to win $100) and the under -120 (bet $120 to win $100).

Yankees Pitcher Today

Jordan Montgomery (5-6, 3.63 ERA) will start this one for the Yankees and he’ll be going up against fellow lefty Dane Dunning (5-8, 4.28 ERA). This will be Dunning’s first start since Aug. 20 against the Red Sox. He got rocked in that one, hit the COVID IL, and then came out of the bullpen for his next two appearances against the A’s and Astros, presumably to help build his arm strength.

As for Monty, it’d be great if the man could get some run support and adequate defensive play behind him. The Yankees have lost the last four games he’s started, and in three of those outings he surrendered just ONE earned run. This needs to stop. The man’s having a career year and doesn’t have much to show for it.

Yankees Starting Lineup

No Luke Voit, again.

Yankees vs Rangers Prediction Today

Conventional wisdom would suggest the Yankees are going to ride their one game of momentum against a guy who’s pitched two relief outings over the last month. Hard to really bet against that, unless you like extremely favorable odds. We wouldn’t risk it, though. Dunning is a soft-thrower (average fastball velocity of 91.9 MPH) and the Bombers usually capitalize on that. Montgomery, on the other hand, should be fine neutralizing the Rangers’ offense.

Yankees win, 7-2.
