Thanks to an eighth inning rally, the New York Yankees disposed of the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

For as encouraging as it was to see the replacement Yankees show some fight, however, a loss on Sunday would mean they dropped three of four to the Red Sox — far from what they were hoping after winning their four-game set last weekend coming out of the All-Star break.

After all, the Rays, winners of five straight, will be waiting in Tropicana, a place New York has seldom had success in over the last few seasons.

With that in mind, the Yankees need to take care of business in Fenway on Sunday. What do the odds say about their chances to pull it off?

Yankees vs Red Sox Odds Today

After looking at the pitching matchup, it isn’t surprising the Yanks are underdogs, as they come in at +150 on the money line, meaning you’ll have to bet $150 to win $100. On the flip side, the Red Sox are favored at -130, so bet $130 to win $100.

If you like to get frisky and bet the spread, Boston is +140 to cover -1.5 on the run line, while the Yankees are -175 ($175 to win $100) to cover +1.5. Given who’s taking the mound, it isn’t surprising that the over/under is set at a healthy 10.5 runs.

Yankees vs Red Sox Pitching Matchup

Domingo German (4-5, 4.71) will toe the rubber for the Yankees on Sunday. It’s been tough-sledding for the right-hander of late, as he’s allowed 17 runs over his last 21 innings of work, equating to a ghastly 7.29 ERA. His WHIP is also 1.62 during that span.

German will be opposed by southpaw Martin Perez (7-6, 4.16), who pitched vs NYY last Sunday, getting tagged for three runs in four innings. The 30-year-old isn’t overpowering, so the Yanks’ lineup, as long as they’re disciplined, should be able to create some traffic.

Then again, it’s probably better to not set expectations with this team.

Yankees Starting Lineup

Good news? Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez are back. The bad? To make room for Urshela on the roster, the Yankees placed Chris Gittens (ankle) on the 10-day injured list. Now we actually have to wait until the Marlins series to see Giancarlo Stanton play the outfield.

Yankees vs Red Sox Prediction

Let’s think about this. Do we really trust the Yankees to win just hours after an emotional come-from-behind victory … with German on the mound? Probably not. After all, momentum is only as good as your next day’s starting pitcher.

Expect the Red Sox to win a tightly-contested 7-5 ballgame.
