Would you look at that. The New York Yankees are 4-1 against the Houston Astros in 2021 and are going for the sweep on Sunday.

For as bad as they’ve been, a win today would lift them to 47-42 before the All-Star break and provide a much-needed sense of relief after that rollercoaster (and largely disappointing) first half.

The problem with the Bombers over the last few months has been their ability to ride the momentum wave. They’ll be tested in that regard on Sunday in Houston because they just got a 129-pitch complete game shutout from Gerrit Cole, who lifted them to a 1-0 victory at Minute Maid Park on Saturday.

Perhaps it’s time for the offense to bludgeon the Astros, who have yet to score a run against the Yankees this weekend?

It’d be a good time to do that, especially since manager Aaron Boone has yet to use Aroldis Chapman in three straight close games dating back to Thursday. A coast-to-coast stress-free win would really go a long way here.

But we can’t have everything, and the Yankees have mostly been unable to finish to job when it comes to sweeping their opponents. Let’s hope for the best as we go through the info for today’s matchup.

Yankees vs Astros Pitching Matchup

It’ll be Jameson Taillon (4-4, 5.05 ERA and 1.30 WHIP) toeing the mound for the Yankees vs Framber Valdez (5-1, 2.86 ERA and 1.17 WHIP) of the Astros. Oddly enough, however, Taillon is coming off his best outing of 2021 while Valdez is coming off his worst.

Yankees vs Astros Prediction Today

Can we get a Yankees’ sweep today? Please? Jameson Taillon has logged three straight wins and two of his last three outings have been the best of his entire 2021 campaign, with his last against the Mariners being his most promising. He twirled seven innings of one-run ball while striking out a season-high nine batters. The Astros are a bit banged up and struggling offensively. If the Yankees’ right-handed heavy lineup can take it to lefty Framber Valdez, we’d like to think we’re looking at a 6-3 victory heading into the break. One time.
