JT Realmuto reportedly ‘not keen’ on playing in New York only screws the Mets

Some Yankees fans want JT Realmuto, but he doesn’t want to play in New York, according to reports.

If you’re among the contingent of New York Yankees fans want the team to go after JT Realmuto in free agency, well, we commend you for your seemingly blind optimism.

In order for the Yankees to do this, they’d have to get the green light to spend unlimited funds during a global pandemic since they also need to re-sign DJ LeMahieu (assuming you want that too) and they’d also have to find a suitor for Gary Sanchez before heavily investing in the catcher position. In short, a Yankees-Realmuto match is unlikely.

And the latest reports have made that even more evident.

Truth be told, the only team this screws is the New York Mets. The Yankees shouldn’t even be considered a landing spot for Realmuto given their countless other needs and contractual obligations.

If Realmuto isn’t keen on not playing in New York, then why in the WORLD would be sign on with the Mets? They’re one of the worst organizations in all of sports and have been a division rival of the slugger for his entire career. We suppose Steve Cohen blowing Realmuto away with a massive offer could sway him, but that’s the only scenario that could potentially turn the tides here.

The Mets already took care of their first order of business by declining Wilson Ramos’ option for 2021, so the door is open for Realmuto to be signed.

Then again, Mets fans are about to learn very quickly how difficult it is to “buy” a championship, which apparently they couldn’t be more excited to do after expressing scorn for that same philosophy the Yankees attempted to execute for the last two decades. Now that they’ve become the evil corporate suits across the river, it’s all good now.

Don’t let a Mets fan ever tell you they have morals.

But it is a sad reality when the Mets are apparently ready to spend during a pandemic while the Yankees have done nothing but dance around free agency questions and make comments about the financial losses they suffered because fans weren’t permitted to attend games.

Then again, we’re not sure what’s more sad — that or the fact the Mets probably won’t even have a shot at their top free agent target.
